Hey there, hello. It's been a while since I posted stuffs here (but let's just be grateful that "a while" is not 3 years). Anyway, since the beginning of this blog, I've always dedicated this blog as a place where I express myself as a fangirl. Whether it's via tags, fanfictions, or storytime like this. March 11th was the 6th anniversary of my fangirling journey. I gotta say that it's a roller coaster ride, but it's a ride that I enjoy. And with this post, I will share with you what is it like to go on that roller coaster ride.
Pre-fangirl :
Let's go back to the time where MTV existed on Indonesian non cable TV, circa 2005. My oldest sister is also a fangirl, and she was the one who introduce me to this world. She would watch TRL (the original one ofc. Not the reboot one that I believe has The Dolan Twins in it) every morning on school holiday, and I joined her watching it eventhough I wasn;t quite understand everything that was going on but, hey, I came for the music.
My sister is also a Potterhead. She would watch Harry Potter movies once in a while, and of course, you guessed it, I also watched them with her.
Fast forward to 2010, when I was enjoying myself watching youtube, my oldest sister introduced me to Kpop, and that made me like Kpop for almost 2 years, until March 11th came.
Narnia :
So, what happened at March 11th 2012 was, I rewatched Prince Caspian, the second Narnia movie (which btw, was the best in my opinion. One of the reasons was Skandar Keynes looks so good there), then I just fell in love. It was also the time that I used my facebook the most, so I would follow or add, whichever facebook use, every Indonesian Narnian or Skandarian fanpage out there on facebook. This facebook world was the only escape that I had from all the bullying that I suffered almost all of Junior High School. So, Narnia means a lot to me.
Every single person on facebook fanfiction era :
I was also introduced to fanficions during the Narnia era. The first fanfiction that I ever read was called Edelweiss. It's a Skandar Keynes fanfiction (ofc, I was so obsessed), and I think that it was really good for an introduction. The author chose Bella Thorne (back when she was still a disney kid) to be the main girl. I was so mindblown by the idea of fanfiction. I mean, I shouldn't be, since I was already a dedicated reader even before I discovered them. But, again, the idea of fancasting your favorite people in your head for a story that you really like was so amazing for me. In this era, I discovered so many celebrities, like Cody Simpson, Alli Simpson, Chloe Moretz, Elle Fanning, Asa Butterfield, Charlie Rowe, Austin Mahone and many more. But the most important discovery of all, was Greyson Chance.
Enchancer on darker days :
I started to like Greyson right before he released his EP, Truth Be Told part 1, and if you're also a big fan of Greyson, you know what happened next. Long story short, he was left by his team and that /made his part 2 of Truth Be told not gonna be teleased. And right after that, he went MIA from the world. He only posted for like once in forever. Then he was in the process of making his album (that again, never released), Planet X. I was (still am) so supportive of him. Now he's back with a new sound, new genre, and I can't be any more happier for him.
Youtubers :
I remember it was after I just got out of Junior High School (so right after I abandoned this blog). I opened a random (at the time it was) youtube video from Connor Franta with the title "Signs a guy doesn't like you", or something like that, and I ended up binge watching most of his videos. From him, I discovered many others youtubers, but mainly was British Youtubers (only 90s kids would remember their golden days), with ThatcherJoe as my favorite. I could watch his impressions videos for hours. And this let me watching youtube videos for hours after school as my daily routine throughout senior high school.
Grunge wannabe :
This was the time I used a lot of we heart it. But, before I even used that, I discovered Arctic Monkeys and Lana Del Rey. The first Arctic Monkeys song that I listened to was I Wanna Be Yours and it took me a few months to listen to their other songs, I don't know why but I regret why I didn't listen to any of their songs sooner. And of course when you started to listen to Arctic Monkeys, you started to listen to other musicians with similar sounds. For me, that was Lana Del Rey. Her voice is just so beautiful and can take you to different places (not literally, but you know what I mean). Like I said earlier, I used we heart it a lot at this era. I made a collection on we heart it called "grunge" and some people follow it (I used to think that that was a really good achievement). This era also made me want to have flannel shirts and converse sneakers more than anything (which I ended up buying.
Directioner :
Other than we heart it, the other application that I still use religiously until now is probably wattpad. Wattpad introdued me to many fandoms. One of them is the one direction fandom. The first one direction fanfiction that I read on wattpad was After. That fanfiction was so famous until it was made into a book and now is in talking to be made into a movie with Daniel Sharman as the main guy. But I actually didn't really like the fanfiction. My favorite was Dark and Dangerous Love, I believe. It was a Zayn Malik vampire fanfiction and I just really liked it. My favorite member was Harry Styles, because I just really like beautiful boys and Harry is the epitome of "beautiful boy". But of course, once I started to like One Direction, Zayn left the band and all the drama that followed after that was my favorite thing to read about on Line timeline. But I just lost respect for Zayn during the dramas. Now that they're all going solo, I'm happy that they're able to express their musicality in their own ways without being told what music to make.
Nerdy Stuffs :
This is the era that I'm now in. It all started with star wars officially. On December 20th 2016 until december 21st 2016 (yes, i remember the date), i watched star wars movies in machete order (icydk, the order is episode 4, episode 5, episode 2, episode 3, and episode 6) bc I googled that it's the best way to watch star wars for people who never watches star wars. The reason i was so hooked to star wars was bc of the prequels, aka the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker aka the most memeable movie series throughout the history. I know that some people don't really like the prequels. As for me, it's not that good of a trilogy, in special effect and script wise. But those movies giving me all the feels. Especially episode 3, hands down, Revenge of the Sith is my favorite star wars movie.
After star wars, the next nerdy thingy that i like is marvel. It all started when I watched Spiderman : Homecoming on July 5th 2017, and boy, did I get hook on that cinematic universe after that. I was never a fan of comic books or anything like that but watching Homecoming had opened the opportunity of me liking these amazing characters, and I'm so grateful that I watched Tom Holland's lip sync battle (you guys know which one I'm talking about), if I never watched that I wont be as excited as I am for Infinity War.
Currently, my biggest obsession is Game of Thrones. I've always hesitated on watching it bc it got too many seasons for me to catch up. But my friend recommended me to watch it. Sure it was a long ride, but it was worth it. A month of watching all 7 seasons of Game of Thrones was worth it. My favorite character is Tyrion btw. I never had a period where I really hate him throughout the show prob bc I've watched him in Narnia and remember him as Trumpkin aka Lucy's Dear Little Friend. Season 8 is still a year away and I can't wait to see who's gonna be sitting on the Iron Throne. I'm betting for neither Daenerys or Jon. Don't ask me why, I just don't really see them sitting on the Iron Throne
I am really thankful that I can be a part of this amazing community and fangirling really did save me. I don't know how my life turned out to be without fangirling. I got new friends because of fangirling, I went through junior high school safely because of fangirling, I became the person that I am right now because of fangirling. And for you, my fellow fangirls/fanboys out there, if people tell you that it's a waste of time, it's ridiculous, "just grow up", don't listen to them. They don't understand what we went through.
